This was a rough year for the UHS cricket club.  Many if not most of the juniors who had played cricket the year before as sophomores turned to other hobbies.  In fact each team started with only 9 players on their rosters, and so we resorted to recruting people from outside the class to fill the rosters for each team, a practice that is not allowed any more.  Moreover, the transition from the South Field to the Band Field was not a welcome one to the returning players, since we had had such a great experience at the South Field the year before.  Nonetheless, we had a great elective with Shane Daniels distinguishing himself as the new captain for the New Zealand team, replacing the previous New Zealand captain and slugger Philip Dodd.  Shane led his team to New Zealand's first second place berth, with the help of the Fresno Cricket Club member Ricky, who nearly clinched the batting title.  Shane Daniels went on to be inducted into the cricket club wall of fame in 2013.
